Just Need Some Help With Design?

• you already have an heirloom chair or settee and don't need me to source one 
• you have a local upholsterer you can use and want to avoid the extra expense and bother of shipping your piece back and forth 
• you want a creative design but don't know where to start
• you're not sure where to find those perfect fabrics or how to mix and match them
• you're unsure what to tell that local upholsterer to do . . . 

I  CAN HELP! Whether you want something floral, exotic, abstract, or  playful, I can pull together some ideas for you, help you find your  fabric, and assist with communicating with your upholsterer.

NOTE: Before you do anything else, scroll down to read this entire page, and check with your local upholsterer to confirm that they can work with you to do this.

1.  Email me at Ria.Nicholas.Designs@gmail.com to tell me about your chair or settee, your color scheme, and the design preferences for your piece.
2. Include in your email some photos of your chair (front, back, and  side), a couple of photos of the room in which your chair will be  placed, your phone number, and the best time to contact you.
3. I will confirm that I received your email and am available to do the design work for you.
4. Once we decide to proceed, you will pay your Consultation Fee.  (See the PayPal link at the bottom of this page.)

Once I receive the information and payment, I'll contact you to schedule the initial phone consultation. . . .

1. We'll start with a 15 minute initial phone consultation. You can  tell me more about your piece and where it will reside in your home.  Share your personal style and color preferences. Ask me any remaining  questions.
2. I'll pull together 5 vision boards with fabric and paint or stain  suggestions for you. (See examples on the left side of this page.) I'll  provide you with an estimated price per yard for each fabric pictured,  the price for swatches, and where to order the swatches. This will  provide us with talking points for our next consultation. (Please note that computer monitors vary. Fabric colors may look slightly different on your monitor than they do  on mine and than the actual fabric will look in person. It is also  difficult to visualize the scale of the print from a digital image  alone. I highly recommend that  you order swatches before making your actual fabric purchases.)
3. I'll contact you to schedule a follow-up phone consultation (up to  15 minutes) to review the vision boards and any swatches you ordered. 
4. Based on your feedback, I'll pull together 1 or 2 more vision  boards and again provide you with an estimated price per yard for each  fabric pictured, the price for swatches, and where to order the  swatches. 
5. After you have reviewed ALL the vision boards and swatches, you'll email me your fabric choices for your chair. 
6. I'll then prepare a rough mock-up picture of your chair for you to  take to your upholsterer. The mock-up is just a tool to help you  explain to your local upholsterer how you want the fabrics placed. It  will not accurately depict how your upholstered chair will actually  look. Your upholsterer should tell you how much of each fabric to order.  . . .

1.  Read through this entire page. Contact me with any questions you have BEFORE you invest any money in this process or in fabric.
2. Check with your local upholsterer before you initiate this process to confirm that they will work with you on this.
3. If you want your chair frame painted or re-stained, check that they can do this for you.
4. Order swatches! Things can look different in person than what you thought.
5. Check with your local upholsterer regarding how much of each  fabric you need before you place your order. You and your upholsterer  are in the best position to measure your piece and determine fabric  quantities. I will not be responsible for determining how much of each  fabric you need.
6. Check and double-check everything before placing your fabric  order. You will be placing your order with the fabric houses, not with  me.
7. I will NOT be doing your upholstery work. You must arrange for that with your upholsterer.
8. Communicate! If you are unsure about something, don't hesitate to ask.

PLEASE  NOTE: I DO NOT offer a refund of the Design Consultation Fee. If you  want additional vision boards or mock-ups, I can provide those for an  additional fee. . . .
